Biography
Oldest son of Duke Wilhelm. Succeeded him as Duke 1839. Lost the throne at the country’s unification with Prussia 1866. Grand Duke of Luxembourg styled as Royal Highness 1890. Half brother to Princess Sofia, King Oscar II’s consort.
Received the order in conjunction with Princess Sofia’s betrothal to future King Oscar II.
