Biography

The only son of King Ernst August. Succeeded him as King 1851. Georg V’s reign ended during the unification of Germany.
He lost the sight of one eye following a childhood illness in 1828, and in the other eye following an accident in 1833.
Received the order at King Oscar I’s bathing trip to Germany.
